Stanley Charles Maher passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the age of 94.

He was born on December 19,1921, the youngest of seven, on the family farm near Rounthwaite, Manitoba, to Robert and Christina Maher. He served in World War II in the Fort Garry Horse Regiment and was amongst the troops landing on Juno Beach on D-Day. He served in Europe until the war ended. Stan had an aptitude for invention and design that was seen about the homes of family and friends in numerous improvements and machines. He was always looking for a better way of doing things. He also had a flair for puns and a wonderful sense of humour.

Stan was predeceased by his siblings, Bertha, Howard, Wes, Doris, Clara, Norman and his daughter Shelley.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Celia; his three children, Glenn, Bob and Cheryl; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Tuesday November 15, 2016 at 2:00pm.

On behalf of Margaret Ackroyd (nee Murray) of Brandon Manitoba, sincere sympathy to Celia and family on the passing of Stan. Margaret grew up with the Maher family south of Brandon. She has fond memories of spending time with the family. Margaret’s parents, Lois and Roy Murray worked for Bob and Chrissy on the farm. Much love to Celia.

    Sincerely, Susan Slawson (Margaret’s daughter)

My sincere condolences to Celia, Glenn, Bob, Sheryl and all others in the Maher family. Stan will never be forgotten for his service to Canada and as a great guy with a super sense of humour. Stan was clever, inventive, thoughtful and will be missed.
