Passed away peacefully in his sleep in his 97th year, New Year’s Day morning. Stan was born in Winnipeg on June 29, 1916, the eldest of six. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael, Tilly, Helen, Margaret, William and in 2001, by his wife of 57 years, Ksenia. He is survived by his two daughters, Louise Scuby (Joe) and Donna Bigras (Wayne Prentis) of Victoria; grandsons, Joshua Scuby, Matthew Scuby (Kathleen) and great-grandsons, Charlie and Stanley and a 3rd great-grandchild due in February, all of Toronto. Being the eldest child during the depression, Stan supported his mother and siblings after the early untimely death of his father. Stan proudly served his country in WWII in the Aleutian Islands. He went on to work for J.I. Case Co. for 33 years, retiring to Victoria in 1988, where he joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, his favourite posting being Government House. He enjoyed travelling, visiting his daughters during their various moves around the world. Up until recently, Stan embraced new technology – loving the computer and the places it was able to take him. Always a news junky, a morning did not pass without his reading the Winnipeg Free Press, Washington Post and London Times. Stan was a “character”, especially the past 6 ½ years at the Lodge at Broadmead, for whom we must thank for their time, patience, kindness, compassion and exemplary care.

A Funeral Service will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadmead Care Society, 4579 Chatterton Way, Victoria, B.C. VBX 4Y7.

Dear Louise and Donna (and your families)
Gerry and I were really saddened to hear about the passing of your Father. He was a great neighbour hen he lived at Scottswood and always had such a great sense of humour. He was so good to your Mom. I used to have lots of fun telling the story at the Broadmead Lodge how they met and then I would do a ‘ballroom dance’ with your Dad when we used to go there.
I know he will be missed very much.
