Taryn Leslie Hudgins passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, in hospice care at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC at the age of 47. Taryn is survived by her parents, Leslie and Edith (Cook) Hudgins, brother, Christopher, aunt, Phyllis McNutt (Brian) and cousins and extended family in Nova Scotia.

Taryn was born in Victoria but spent her growing-up years in the many places her military family was posted. Back in Victoria she graduated from Mount Douglas High School and then went to Acadia University in Nova Scotia, graduating in 2002. Ottawa beckoned and Taryn spent over 20 years there building a career as an office receptionist, most recently with the Kelly Santini law firm. She became an active member in neighbourhood community garden programs and her “green thumb” extended to indoor plants as well. Taryn’s smile and warm and generous nature led to many friendships through her university, work and neighbourhood activities.

At Taryn’s request, there will be informal gatherings to celebrate her life in Victoria, Ottawa and Nova Scotia. In remembrance, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, a hospice or palliative care unit, or a charity of your choice.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Getting to know Taryn at Kelly Santini was a privilege. She brightened up each day with her radiant smile. Taryn had a great sense of humour. We chatted about our weekends and every day life. She was genuine in every sense. We cherish her memory.

I worked with Taryn at Kelly Santini for the last 12 years. She was the first person who greeted me at my interview. I was extremely nervous but Taryn being the kind person she was, was very reassuring and helped me get through it. I’d always stop to chat with her whenever I went to reception for anything, often about gardening or my dog who she always asked about! I am so sorry for your loss. Taryn was a very kind soul and she will be greatly missed

I had the pleasure of working with Taryn at Kelly Santini and seeing that bright smile everyday. We chatted about her gardens, her walks to works, her plans with friends and how much she hated doing dishes! We often had personal training sessions together and she was a force. I will miss Taryn and her positivity. Gone way too soon.

RIP Taryn. I remember you from our Sigma days – you were so happy and full of life. You used to talk about your family so much, all the happy memories from being an aunt.

It breaks my heart that you’re not here anymore. Cancer is just awful – I’m praying that you’re back to feeling joyful and at peace again.

You were a beautiful soul and you inspired my life for the better – I was reminded to be more open-minded and see the silver-linings in life. ❤️

Taryn introduced me to Daniel 20 years ago as a friend that I could do touristy stuff with in Montreal. We are still together 20 years later and very happy. I owe Taryn so much for introducing us. She was a bright light and a fun person. I really enjoyed our friendship when we were in sorority together. I miss you my friend but I hope you have found true love on the other side!

With deep sympathy for Edith, Les and Christopher.

To my high school girlfriend who was always so good natured and gave everything to everyone with a smile and full heart. To the many conversations, advice and laughter and to my beautiful time you took me into your world in Ottawa you were always so full of grace. To all the people family and friends you helped along the way. I will miss you always but I know that I will see you again. I pray Jesus will bring comfort to your family and knowing you are no longer in pain. God’s blessings always, I know I will look for you in the stars. Hugs my friend I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you one last time.

Life seems horribly unfair, and this is one of those times. Go with love my friend. I will have pleasant memories of you for all my days. I know you wanted more of it all, but you gave so much with what you had. Sleep well and rest from the chaos.
