Terry Salo was a fisherman and dedicated father. He was also so proud of his kids and often heard on the sidelines at his kids sporting events. He was the oldest of 4 from the village of Kyoquot. He lived an active life swimming, playing tennis and golf. He will be remembered for his big smile and strong character. He will sincerely be missed by his kids Natasha and Raymond, his siblings Diane, Dale and Brian and extended family and friends. He passed away suddenly with his family by his side.

Wendy Newton I was very sad to hear of Terry’s passing. I first met Terry on the soccer field while our daughters were playing soccer. That let to a few lunches, dinners, and interesting golf games. He had a great sense of humour and always was talking about his kids and how proud he was of them.
My condolences to Natasha and Raymond on your loss.

Barbara Walker Terry, how very sad I am to hear of you dying. You were such an adversary on the tennis court. We had some good matches, dude. I will miss you and your stories. You had a great bond with your kids, so proud of their achievements, such a devoted, loving father. We’ll have you in our hearts.
I will miss you Terry Salo.

Rosalinde Compton I was very sorry to see Terry’s face on the obits page of the TC this weekend. We hung out together a few years back and he told me much of his life story, including his roots in the Finnish community, trips to India for pioneer hip-replacement surgery, his love of tennis and his place in San Jose. He loved his family and I was honoured to reframe some of his special photographs for him. We enjoyed blues music at the old Harpo’s club, and he kindly cooked dinners for me at his Oak Bay home. I will miss his friendly smile and offer my condolences to his family.

June Maynard My husband and I were so very sad and shocked to read of Terry’s passing. We knew Terry since junior high days in North Vancouver. Terry was one of the “boys”, with Denny, that hitch hiked to Montreal for Expo in 1967 with many tales to tell.
Terry and his long time friend, Peter Grant, also since passed, moved into a communal house at 16th and Cambie at the end of the summer of 1967 as he went off to UBC. I lived there with another friend from that era and there was such fun and adventures. Well, after all, it was the 60’s….
We only saw Terry a couple of times in recent years but had off and on contact. He was always in fine spirits and a proud and dedicated father.
Our sincere condolences to his family and children. I am sure that spirit lives on in them.

Dan McDonagh I was very sad to hear about Terry. I had the great pleasure of being on a few golf trips with him and “the boys” to Washington State over the years. Terry had a smile that lit up the room and an enormous sense of humour, which helped him given the state of his golf game. I ran into him from time to time in town and we always went for a coffee and a laugh filled yak that always made my day. He always spoke very lovingly of his children. He will be missed.

John Park A friend for 30 years whose life revolved around his children – committed and fearless with his beliefs – wore his heart on his sleeve and would never abandon a friend or stock – always ready to listen and give his opinion – a man whose friendship was never questioned and whose demise has left a huge hole. Terry burnt the candle completely and left us way way too soon.

The Fiddicks Saddened to hear of Terry’s passing. Terry was so passionate and supportive of Natasha and Ramone. Many a weekend spent cheering from the sidelines of soccer and the basketball court! Also some interesting conversations at the “Penny”. May his family find comfort in their many memories of a life well lived!

AB and Jocelyn Shocked at the news of Terry’s passing, we enjoyed many good times over the last 20 plus years. Talked for hours and hours in person and over the phone about this stock and that stock, in the 90’s we had many a drink down at Swan’s and more recently a coffee or two at the OB Beach Hotel. There is no doubt of his deep love and affection for you Natasha and you Raymond, he was so very proud of you.
His big smile will be cherished for ever!A final toast Terry to your saying “If you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much room”

Neil Rawnsley Shocked to learn of Terry’s passing. Terry was passionate in his love and support for his children. We met early in our children’s lives as Natasha and Laura advanced through Little League softball, soccer, school sports and beyond. Always there supporting his kids and so proud of their efforts. Loved life, loved his time in Mexico and most of all loved his family. My condolences to Natasha and Raymond on your loss.

Karen and Ed We are very saddened by the news of Terry’s passing. We have only known Terry a couple of years, met through tennis on the Baja. We very quickly came to appreciate his sense of humour, and unique personality, and It was very apparent that his children were his life’s greatest accomplishment although he told some great stories of his life as a commercial fisherman. Our deepest sympathy goes to his children, siblings, extended family and friends. Karen and Ed

We also had the pleasure of his company while he stayed with us for a few days last summer. Terry had a wonderful sense of humour and will be sorely missed!

We have been Terry’s neighbours since Natasha and Raymond were small children. Len and Terry spent many an hour discussing “the Market” and countless hours of tennis over the years.
He was so proud of his children, throughout their lives, choosing their career paths and successfully achieving them.
We miss his smile and friendly chats.
Our condolences to Natasha and Raymond and all his family.
