Jack was the sort of man we would all like to be.moderate when moderation would serve and passionate when the need arose. Jack is that rare breed of politician, I say “is” rather than was as the influence remains, who actually cares a great deal about the people he worked with and for. It’s a talent he share with you Olivia.

  • Judi Gedcke

My 8 year old Canadian born granddaughter Paige, who makes her home in So Cal, USA with her parents and brother, watched Jack’s funeral with me today. She was so moved by the music and speeches that she said, “Grama, I wish I knew Jack.”
    Indeed Paige, indeed.

What a champion Jack was. When he came to power, I started voting NDP. I live on Vancouver Island, where he visited numerous times. He truly blessed all of us, the common people of our great country, Canada. May his memory live on forever. My sincere sympathy to all of you.

    Sincerely,
    Judi Gedcke and Paige Fike

So sorry you have passed on Jack. I was hoping you could have stayed around and kept Harper honest and held his feet to the fire on a regular basis. I didn’t vote NDP last time around but you were a man of the people Jack and I hold you in the highest esteem. I was really looking forward to a high spirited opposition to say the least! I hope the NDP party does not become less than you wanted it to be and continues to follow through in keeping those in power answerable to us all. RIP Jack.

  • Joan McIlmoyl Cleghorn, U.E.

To Olivia & family, your loss is more than we can grasp so I send you my thoughts & prayers to help you through this terrible loss. As for the loss to our country, there have been very few political leaders in our history who generated the same appeal as Jack did to those both within his party and without! He was a truly special person as well as a stalwart supporter of democracy and will be sorely missed by us all. I can only be grateful that Jack didn’t suffer for an extended period & believe that he’s in a better place where he’s the Prime Minister. It’s now our jobs as Canadians to continue his dream for our country.

I shocked and deeply saddended this morning when I heard the news that Jack Layton had died. A charismatic face that will be missed on our political scene. It is sad to see that Mr. Layton has worked so hard with his party, believed in our country and it’s people and had only a short time to enjoy victory in his minority government. He will be remembered as a great leader, and citiizen to Canada. All Canadian’s either Liberal, PC or NDP, can appreciate Mr. Layton’s dedication, his hardwork, and determination.
To the family of Jack Layton, my heartfelt condolences and may God be with you through this difficult time.

To the family of Jack Layton, please accept my heartfelt condolences on his passing. There is nothing to ease the ache in your heart now, but I firmly believe that his influence on his country will grow even stronger over the passing years, and will continue to benefit Canadians for generations to come. I am sure you are very proud of him, and it is obvious that he holds a very special place in the hearts of Canadians across the country. We will miss him, and will hold our country closer to our hearts because of his time with us.He’s one of the Canadians who make us hold our heads a little higher. God bless and keep you.

What can i say about a man who said it best himself, “My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.”

No truer words have ever been spoken. I hope that his NDP colleagues can bring his dream to fruition.

Bless you all, and and know that Canadians, and Canada and it’s future mourn your loss.

    Sincerely,
    Tracey
