Tom was a teacher in Greater Victoria for 25 years and continued to teach (and learn) even up to his final days.

Lois, Janice, Rob and Patrice,
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of your loss. Tom holds a special place in my heart and always will. I loved talking with him and listening to his stories about teaching and fishing as so many people have commented before me. I am very sad not to be there with you but am sending hugs your way and much love, Bo aka Val
We have known Tom for many years. He was a fine person, great family man, outstanding teacher, avid fisherman. It is with great regret that we learned of his passing.
Sincerely, Evelyn and Bob

We remember you all so well. I have fond memories working across the hall from Tom at Blanshard Elementary School. Tom was the veteran teacher and I was just starting my career. Tom was a great guy and yes, a very good story teller. The very best to you all.

Mr. Heppell taught my 5th grade class at Uplands Elementary (1988?). He had a profound affect on me with his funny stories, loving nature and sincere enthusiasm. He was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.
I was a member of the “Breakfast Club” for misbehaving kids who were chronically detained after 3pm!
I remember doing pottery with him, and his story about his dog who’d passed on, yet he continued to step over the spot where the dog always used to lie in the doorway.
I wish I had seen him again after elementary school but I will certainly be attending the memorial, it would be an honour to meet his family.
So sorry for your loss.

I have wonderful memories of Tom, with clay spattered tie, in the staff room showing off his students latest creations. I’m sure some parents still treasure the “trademarked” mugs, bowls and sculptures. Tom was a good teacher and good friend who never tired in his devotion to his students. His life left a great impression on those of us who called him teacher and friend.
Our deepest sympathy,

Rob are though and prayer are with you and your family. I didn’t know your dad but knowing you and your hard work and devotion for your profession. Now I think I know how your dad was a great man.
