Passed away on May 2, 2012. Thora was born in Victoria, the only child of Jessie and Wilfrid Harrison of pioneer families from Sidney and Saanichton areas. Thora was educated at Northward Elementary and Victoria High Schools. After graduation, she continued her education at Craigdarroch Castle Education Program and then worked in the commercial outlets in downtown Victoria. She finished her working years with McMartin Leather Goods. Thora married Len Duncan on September 26, 1940 and they were together until April 1942 when Len went overseas, returning to Victoria on January 21, 1946. After Len’s return, they built their home in Oak Bay. Len and Thora had a very happy marriage until Len passed away on December 10, 1998. In the last years of her life, Thora was in residence at Joan Crescent Manor where she received loving care by the wonderful staff.

Thora’s remains will be interred at the family plot at Royal Oak Burial Park. At Thora’s request, there will be no service. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

My sincere condolences to Thora’s family.

Thora and Len were neighbours for many years, we shared many good visits at each others houses.

She loved to sing along to the music the piano player played at joan Crescent Manor..

Thora Duncan has made a huge difference to UVic students in the School of Nursing. The Thora Duncan Scholarships in Nursing have helped many students complete their studies and realize their dream of becoming a nurse.

Thora’s generous nature and quiet disposition was always a delight. She will be missed. With deepest sympathy.
