October 8, 1917 – May 16, 2011

Passed into the presence of the Lord and Saviour after a long and full life. Vera and her four siblings; Vic, Rich, Doug, and Muriel, were all born and raised in Victoria. Vera and her husband, Walter (pre-deceased), co-owned and operated Fairfield Pharmacy for over 20 years. Left with precious memories of a Mom, Grandma and “GG”, are Pauline (Dave), Dale (Joy), Wayne (Maureen), 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Tuesday, May 24th at 11:00 am at Royal Oak Burial Park with a tea immediately following at Sequoia Gardens Memorial, located near the entrance to the park. Sincere thanks to the staff of Dogwood 2, at Oak Bay Lodge, for their excellent care of Mom and support to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Camp Imadene, or Daybreak Point Bible Camp. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

Dear Pauline, Dave and Family, Dale, Joy and Family,
Thank you, Pauline, for sending the Facebook message about your Mom’s passing. Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time.
Your Mom was a great lady and I have many fond memories of both Vera and Walter Carter. In particular, I remember visiting at their beautiful home in Victoria and also had many opportunities to be with them when they were visiting with you and Dale in New Westminster. It is a blessing to you and all the family, particularly the grandchildren and great grandchildren, that she lived such a long life. What a joy to know that she is with the Lord!
    Deepest sympathies and blessings.
    Don, Deirdre and Family.

    Hi Family,
I trust you received my card of sympathy, and I want you all to know I am disappointed I can’t be there for the Memorial, but my prayers are with you all. I know it’s a hard time as well. But please be comforted that my Dad is with his sister now, and we know Vera will be at peace and joy in the presence of God.
A place we can all look forward to.
    Much Love Always,
    Ginelle

    To ALL Vera’s Family,
I was so sorry to read about your Mother’s dealth. You will remember me as one of her caregivers when she lived at the
Victorian in Gordon Head. You have lost a most beautiful loving and wonderful Mother. She was definitely one of my favorite ladies.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend her service on Tuesday, but I will light a candle in her memoy and will be thinking of you.
My sincere condolences and sympathy to you All.
    God Bless-Sharon

  • Gary Webb

My name is Gary Webb and I have been a hairdresser volunteer at OBL for seven years – over that time I have taken Vera, each Tuesday, to the hairdresser. What a very special lady she was – the joy of my Tuesday morning!! So many of the ladies needed to be coached and did not enjoy the hair experience!! Not Vera – often she would be sleeping and I would gently wake her – “time for the hairdresser” – immediately she would smile and, more than often, transfer to my chair on her own. Wayne you will remember me from our many years ago at Royal Trust – so I always knew your mother was a Christian – but it has been such a testimony to me that even when one’s memory and other faculties fail the Lord remains and there was always such a grace and rich spirit that surrounded her as we would transfer to and from the hairdresser. I can testify to the rich character and deep presence in her life. I will miss my Tuesday morning encounter with this very beautiful and endearing lady! This Tuesday I will feel her very close as you lay her to her rest and pray that you will all know a very rich sense of His peace as Vera enters eternal peace. God Bless – Gary
