Our friend, compañera, mother, sister and grandmother is not longer with us. Born in Sonsonate, El Salvador, Virginia’s character, good disposition, tenderness and love for humanity showed in every aspects of her daily life. During her residence in the Mitraniketan Housing Co-op, she provided love and care for the children, neighbours and friends. Virginia was a tireless supporter of human right causes and the democratic changes in her former country of El Salvador. She also extended her love, tenderness and solidarity to refugees fleeing from other nations. Virginia was a hands-on woman who minced no words of love and encouragement, but also stern admonition when and where needed.
She will be missed by her friends and comrades in Victoria and her family in El Salvador and elsewhere.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 1:00pm at the St. Mary of the Incarnation, 4125 Metchosin Road, Metchosin, BC.

Dan Thorlakson When I first met Virginia in the 80’s she was a recent arrival from El Salvador and it was easy to tell that she lamented not being there. Yet, when I visited her home, it was I who felt like a refugee arriving in “El Salvador at Dowler Place”, the way she welcomed and fed and taught me about life in her country. Her English was not so great and my Spanish was no better, but she always managed to communicate her caring nature and her ironic sense of humour.

Carlos F. It is good to know that Virginia was living her last years in a good place. Mount St. Mary’s Hospital provided a good home to our friend.
Magdalena, Ricardo, Manuel, Aura, Liliana [We Care] are some of the outstanding individuals who also provided love, care and friendship to our beloved Virginia and for that I am thankful.
Dear Virginia: I hope that wherever you may be, you’ll find a mango tree, a stream of singing water and the laughter of children to accompany your journey: sweet, refreshing and joyful is how I remember you.
