July 30, 1920 – March 26, 2014

Died peacefully at Selkirk Place.  Walter was predeceased by his son, Mark in 2010.  Dad will be fondly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Joan; son, Jim (Carmen); daughter, Kerry (Norm) Wiens; 6 grandchildren, Sam (Leslie), Shelley (Pat), Brett (Tracy), Matthew (Nicole), Ashley and Danny and 6 ½ great-grandchildren.

Dad, although physically challenged in his later years remained a ray of sunshine to all his caregivers. We extend many thanks to all the Selkirk Staff for their care and compassion.

No service by request.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Dear Jim and Carmen,
Rodney and I wanted to express our sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your beloved father. It is not easy to lose someone who gave us life and has always been in our lives. We especially think of your mother, Joan, as she shared 68 wedding anniversaries with her beloved Walter. We are sure you all have been blessed with a treasure chest of memories which, as time passes, you will open and rejoice in them. May God bless and comfort you.
    With much love,
    Noella and Rodney

Kerry, Norm, Brett (& wife) and Matt (and girlfriend):

I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad, Father-in-law and Grampa. My heart aches for yours. I know that each of you will grieve the loss of this wonderful man in your own way and I will pray that God will be gracious to you in this time of pain, heartache and loss. Many hugs to you all, Love, Lynette

  • Elizabeth A Wallace

I was shocked to learn of Walter’s passing in the newspaper.

As companion to Joyce Chilibeck, we saw Walter every day. Joyce used to call him “Burt” and he was so good natured about it. We often teased each other and he was always so jovial.

Ironically, it is Walter’s passing which has allowed Joyce’s husband of 66 years, Nick to move to her floor from the independent living side.
They are such a devoted couple, I was very happy for them, knowing how difficult the separation has been for them both.

Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of such a lovely man. God bless you all.

  • Stuart & Margaret Wright

Please accept our sincere sympathy. We have fond memories of coming to your house for Skylark get-togethers , talking with Walt and seeing his hobby projects. He was a fine fellow.

  • Kim Stuart

Our family (Jim and Rose Rodgers) first moved in across the street from yours in 1964. We envied (well, Dad and I did) your Dad’s chickens.
Growing up as a friend of Kerry’s, I primarily saw Walt through a teenagers eyes. Children can be critical of our parents, but I always saw Walt as a very good man – a kind, fair, steady father. At all ages, Walt saw me as a person and paid attention to me when he talked with me. Many parents didn’t.
A Good Person. If we can all leave this world knowing that is what we have contributed, it doesn’t get much better.
I know my parents will have coffee ready on the other side.

Thinking of You All Love, Kim

  • Christine Reimer & Bruce Heayn

Our sincere sympathy from the Reimer/Heayn family.

We have wonderful memories of the Kye Bay summers with Walt and Joan. Walter was always up for whatever was happening – a game of cards, a trip to the reef, collecting “things” for the fire, going to see the “cute girls” in the musicals at CYMC – he embraced it all with his cheerful, anything goes attitude.

He will be much missed and always remembered with a smile.

love from, Christine, Bruce, Caitlin and Emily
