With family by his side, and after a courageous fight, our Dad, William Albert Steffler passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital in Saanichton, BC.

Dad was born of German roots, November 21, 1936 in St. Clements, ON.  He is predeceased by his father and mother, numerous sisters and one brother.  He is survived by sisters, his four children – William, Sherry (Robert Ross), Robert and Debra; five grandchildren – Alison (Curtis), Colton, Tyrel (Sam), Chance and Chase (Taylor) and four great-grandchildren – Weston, CJ, Alex and Sapphire.

After moving west from Ontario at the age of 21 and working for a few years, Dad met our mom, Barbara Rae Watson, and was married in November of 1960.

Although Dad worked at a few different jobs, he spent most of his working years employed by the municipalities of Saanich and Central Saanich, other than a brief time where he relocated to Manning, AB to pursue his dream of being a cattle farmer.

Dad was one of a group of people who started the Saanich Peninsula Lacrosse Association.  Once the association was formed, he became a coach where he took pride in teaching young children the game.

Dad and mom became very involved with the Saanich Peninsula 4-H Beef Club, once we became members in the 70’s. The Lacrosse and 4-H years were some of Dad’s proudest and favourite times.

At 65, once Dad’s working years were over and us kids were all raised – he retired and turned his interests to other things – making yearly trips to Alberta to visit Sherry and his grandkids and watching his grandsons’ activities in Victoria.  Dad was determined to be in better shape and live a more healthy life, so he became an avid walker and wore out many pairs of white sneakers.

The last few years of his life, it was his passion for flowers and his love of sports that kept him busy. If he wasn’t outside watering flowers, he was inside watching sports on TV –  hockey, curling and golf being his sports of choice.

Dad’s spirit, strength and goodness will be in our hearts forever and we will miss his witty sense of humour and the pride and joy he always had in us kids, his grandkids and great grandkids!

Thank you to the doctors and caregivers at Saanich Peninsula hospital for the care and kindness they gave Dad.  Also, a special thanks to the residents and staff of Legion Manor for all they did for Dad.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC – Royal Oak with Stephen Swift officiating.  Burial to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.  Refreshments and a gathering for friends and family will follow the services at the Waddling Dog.
