August 31, 1932 – August 22, 2012

Bill was at home in Willis Point with his family on August 22, 2012 when he died suddenly at 11:50 am. We are grateful for his quick and painless passing at home.

Bill is survived by his wife Cheryl and seven children; Dan, Kathryn (MacDonald), Mark, Bill Jr, Tim, Russell and Owen. Bill had twelve grand-children and four great-grand-children. Bill is also survived by his sister Elvy (Susan) Sweeley.

Bill was born William Norman John D’Oly Earle on August 31, 1932. William was made the first ward of the state in British Columbia 1934 and was later adopted by Joseph and Rose Haley.

Bill was a school teacher in Victoria from 1961 until 1986 and was the proprietor of Haley Roofing for over 50 years. He was responsible for roofing houses and buildings throughout the capital region, including a number of large institutions, historic sites and churches.

Bill will be remembered as an upstanding Christian, an intellectual and a leader. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds.

A funeral mass will be held for William Haley at St. Andrews Cathedral downtown on August 31, 2012 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations will be sent to the St. Vincent De Paul in Bill’s name. Condolences may be offered below.

I remember Mr. Haley when he was a teacher at Colquitz Jr. High (1965/68). As a student, I can verify he was exactly how he was described in his obituary – kind and compassionate, a true gentleman who exemplified a strong Christian character.

My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Dear Cheryl and Family…..Monty and I were so sad to read of Bill’s passing and wanted to send fondest wishes to you Cheryl and to the children and family members. We have such fond memories of you and Bill from the early days, (and for me of Dan, Mark and Bill Jr), both as teacher’s (Monty), talking about and getting advice about putting on a roof, and as good friends who shared many a laugh and a good story together. We have just spoken with Norm and Mickey and Shaun and Susie who will, I’m sure be in touch. I can still hear Bill’s strong voice and hearty laugh despite the passing of the years in between. He was, in so many ways, such a lucky man! With fondest memories and good wishes for you all. Sandy and Monty, Liesl and Kaj
