Bill was born of Ukrainian parents in 1918 on a small family farm near Dauphin, Manitoba and died peacefully on January 2, 2016. He left home as a teenager and during the Dirty Thirties worked in northern Ontario and across the Prairies on farms and road crews, at lumber camps and the grain elevators in Port Arthur. He eventually reached Victoria where he served in the Army during World War II. After the war, he married Iris Noel and they had a son, Ralph. Bill became a barber and operated several shops, notably Hollywood Barbers at Fairfield Plaza for many years. Bill and Iris enjoyed their annual trips to Hawaii where Bill relaxed under a palm tree and played cribbage with the same group of friends. In retirement, he was a gardener, home handyman, avid sidewalk supervisor at construction sites around town and a devotee of horse racing.

He was predeceased by Iris in 2006 and is survived by his son Ralph (Vancouver), a sister Rose (Oshawa), extended family and friends.

Thanks to Ron Wyndels and Randy Lee and especially the wonderful staff at The Heights at Mt. View Residential Care and Dr. Mak for making Bill’s final years comfortable and companionable.

No service by request.
