Celebration of Life Announcement
Please join our family to remember and celebrate the life of Bill (William) Spriggs, on Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 2 to 4 pm in the Bodine Family Hall at Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney BC. All are welcome.
Bill Spriggs passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July 2, 2019 at the age of 89. Born and raised on the island of Montreal, Bill received degrees in agriculture and forestry from MacDonald College and UNB before moving to BC. A few years in forestry led to his dream job as a Parks Planner with BC Parks where he worked from 1957 until retirement in 1988. His reconnaissance work and recommendations contributed to the creation of many of BC’s best loved parks including Naikoon on Haida Gwaii and the West Coast Trail.
In retirement, Bill continued his keen interest in gardening, beekeeping and exploring the great outdoors with his perfect partner, Cicely Meek, their families and the many close friends he made so easily. Always a gentleman, a singer and lover of nature, patient, generous of spirit and time and kind. These are the things that are said over and over about Bill.
He is survived by his partner Cicely; his daughters Alison and Noël; his grandchildren Sunan, Gabe and Noah; his great grand-daughter Sienna and his brothers David, John and sister Hilary (Hellum). We have all been deeply influenced by and are ever grateful for his values and his way of being in the world.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A gathering to remember his life will be held toward the end of the summer.
Our family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support Bill received from BCCA, Victoria Hospice, the Canadian Red Cross and staff at the Glenshiel Seniors Residence. Donations to these organizations in his memory would be most appreciated.

Catharine Bushe I have known the Sprigs family since I was a very young child ~ we grew up together in Ste Anne de Bellevue. He was a lovely boy/man and my family knew his family for years ! I am so sorry to hear of his death but he must have been really getting on in years and he will be sadly missed by his family all his friends !

Michael Gye I remember the riotously happy hours we spent with the crowd crushing apples to make cider in his Iris Ave garden all those years ago. Also the great Guy Fawkes bonfire parties…What a wonderful host he was and such a good friend.

Eileen Curteis I only came to know Bill shortly before he crossed over and it indeed was a privilege to connect with his remarkable energy. I was touched by his inner peace and transparency of soul. Marilyn Van Imschoot I have very fond memories of visiting Bill and Cicely at their home on Edgelow. Their garden was magnificent and they always made me feel some welcome. I miss them both and the pleasant times that we had together. Please give my regards to the family.

Ann Scarfe Bill was a wonderful help with our demonstration beehive at Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary many years ago. I loved his gentle caring nature for the bees, for life and his wonderful garden. A real gentleman in all areas. RIP Bill
We were saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. He and Cicely were great friends and neighbours of ours for 16 years on Edgelow st. Bill & Cicely organized a meet and greet when we first arrived to meet the other neighbours which was very thoughtful and appreciated. Bill was always willing to share his knowledge in many areas including gardening. We enjoyed many gatherings at their house for coffee. Bill will be fondly remembered.
