We know Bill and Ruth quite well in Maui in the ’70s and knew Ruth was ill at that time. We loved them both. I have just now googled Bill since a friend just mentioned she knew a Ryan Oughtred from Nanaimo, not sure if it is a relative.

    Warm regards to all,

I love you very much grandpa and it is great to hear some of the stories on here. I wish you could have met my little baby boy due April 15th, as I am sure you would have had many pearls of wisdom for him. I am happy that you can reunite with grandma now, send her big hugs and kisses from me and don’t worry, we will take care of Dee. Thank you for raising such an amazing son, he is the best father a girl could ask for. Rest now Grandpa, we all will love and cherish you forever <3

    Bob, Jane and John,

Your dad was a wonderful man and great character.

I remember the day he drove home a sparkling-new, dark-blue Chevy, no doubt from Jack Harris. As he turned into your driveway opposite our home in Nanaimo, he leaned out the window and shouted something like “it was the closest I could get to black.”

And then there was your pool. It was generously opened to the neighbourhood gang all summer starting on the Victoria Day weekend. I won’t forget him any time soon.

    John and Bob

I am very sorry to read of your father’s death. Having gone through the experience myself I know it is a difficult time. I didn’t know your father well but the times I met him I very much enjoyed his company. From knowing the two of you I can say that he raised a fine family.
    Again my condolances.

  • Bob/Glenys Kelly

    Dear John, Beti and family,

Glenys and I are so sorry to hear about your dad John. I always thought of him as a “rock” and you never think of losing them.

I remember him mad as a hatter when we snuck out in the Corvair (before 16), and sneaking out the window at night. It’s good to know he lived 50 more years after our shenanigans.

I’m proud to have known him and equally proud to know his son…my lifelong friend.

  • Ken and Pat Perry

We were very sorry indeed to learn of Bill’s passing. Many an interesting conversation was shared over the past 17 years we have been in Wedgewood. Bill always provided an inspiring insight and opinion to the situation in the complex and to life in general.

Our sincere sympathy to Dee and all the family.

John: I remember your dad with fondness. He had little pearls of wisdom for all of us teenagers. For me personally; “Jack has a taste for champagne. but a beer budget”.
Bill was blessed with a long life, a wonderful wife, and a great family. A life well lived.
