Passed away suddenly on April 27, 2026. He was born in Summerland, BC on January 23, 1946 and moved to Victoria with his family around the age of nine.
Predeceased by his parents Ronald and Jean and siblings Esther, Fred and Doug. He is survived by his three children; Teresa, Trevor (Vanessa), Tanya (Doug) and their mother and former spouse Linda, eight grandchildren, Cody, Brianna, Darian, Emma, Devon, Zack, Lexi, and Sasha; two siblings Barb and Bob, and many friends from the trucking industry, golf community, and his neighbourhood.
Dad was passionate about many things, especially buying motorcycles in his earlier years before shifting gears to buying and selling cars – so many that we eventually lost count! He loved spending time on the golf course, lighting up his work trucks and house with Christmas lights, and tending to his many hanging flower baskets.
In 1978, Bill purchased Nixon Bros. Truck Repairs, building it into one of the most recognized heavy-duty commercial transport repair shops on southern Vancouver Island. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his life; even after selling the business in 2019, he continued to work part-time being the first one to arrive each morning to open the gates. One of his greatest joys was working alongside his family – with his son Trevor joining as a teenager and later his two grandsons, Devon and Zack.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Bill’s Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCalls, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 2:00pm.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Mike Metters I was saddened to hear about Uncle Bill’s passing. This news brought back a flood of memories of visiting everyone in Victoria in the 1980s.
I often think about those summers when I was around 12 or 13, traveling up by myself on the bus and ferry to visit. Those were special times. I can still picture Uncle Bill coming down from the truck shop, always laughing, picking me up with my bike, and greeting me like no time had passed. Getting off the ferry in downtown Victoria, he’d ask if I wanted to grab a “Yankee burger” at McDonald’s, and just like that, the adventure would begin.
There was nothing better than those days, riding motorcycles and other ATVs in the gravel pit, or heading out fishing in the saltwater. Everything felt full of life, full of energy… That was Uncle Bill.
I also remember seeing those pictures on the basement wall of him as a young guy, hot rodding, clearly someone who loved cars. It seems that passion runs in the family. It’s a part of him that always stuck with me.
Life moves quickly, faster than we expect. Moments like these remind me how important it is to stay connected and make time for one another.
Uncle Bill will be missed by many. Much love to all of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Best, Mike Metters

Sarah (Metters) Healey I sure loved my Uncle Bill, spending time with his family, his trucks, & walks thru the woods. Sledding down the drive & into the street. Having a cup of tea or some pea soup after. So generous & kind. Sending hugs to all the family from all the family in the states!

I was sad to hear of Bill’s passing. I had the privilege of first meeting him at the Royal Colwood Golf course. As members, we played together as a Saturday foursome and became good friends over the years. Bill was a super nice man and a positive influence on everyone around him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
RIP Billy

Robert L. Turnbull I am sorry to learn of Bill Metters passing. I knew Bill when he was a little tyke in Summerland, knew all the Metters Family and when I moved to Victoria in 1955, the Metters family moved there a year or so later, so continued with the friendship. Last time I saw Bill was at his Mother’s funeral service.
The Metters family where very much a part of my early life and I am still in touch with Bill’s brother
Robert who is in the USA. To all the family I leave thoughts and memories of a time past.

Laura Brewer Condolences to Bill’s family on his passing. Bill will be truly missed by my husband and myself, he was a true friend and a wonderful man. I first met Bill when I was hired as Manager of the IEOA in 1996. Bill was such a valuable source of IEOA history and was always available when I needed advice and guidance throughout the years. I feel blessed to have known him. Rest in peace my friend.

Kim Laing My condolences to the family on Billy’s passing. He was such a wonderful person, always the first to give a hand. I came to know him through my employers LB Cranes and Bert’s Enterprises when Nixon’s took care of our equipment repairs & inspections. But I really got to know him through my 25+ (and still counting) years as a member and volunteer with the IEOA.My granddaughter & I were his very willing photography assistants at many an IEOA truck parade. And he served with me on the bursary committee. His wisdom, kindness and smiles will be sorely missed by myself and all who knew him in the industry. RIP Billy ❤️
