We are very sorry to hear of William’s passing. We have many fond memories of Bill from the grocery store at Moss and May. When we lived on Bond st., we would stop in regularly and it was always a treat to be greeted by Winnie, Bill, or Janice with such warmth and kindness. Chinese New Year was a favorite time for my sister and I, down the hill to the store we would go, where Bill would be waiting with a nice shiny Loonie for each of us, enclosed in a beautiful decorative envelope.

We lost our father and husband, Brian, earlier this year so we understand what a sad and difficult time this can be. May memories of love shared and time spent together help you through these next days, months, years.

Our thoughts and condolences are with you.

Even though we never had the opportunity getting to know Mr. Wong, from everything we heard, he was a great father & an example for us all to follow. Martin, Janice, Marlene & Bernice – My heartfelt condolences to you all on your loss. Your dad and mom (all of you, actually) were such important people in my childhood (and since). My family lived on Dallas Rd. by Moss St., so as kids, we stopped in at the grocery store whenever possible! And being a guest in your home was a real honour. Your dad and mom were always so welcoming and kind. Sending you my love, sympathy and support, Teresa (Terry)

I lived on May Street as a little girl and Bill was my friend. I spent time in his corner store stacking shelves and he paid me 25 cents! He made me feel so important. I always got huge ice creams from Bill for just 5 cents. He taught me “Jesus Loves Me” in Chinese too. As a youngster, he was a wonderful part of my life. I offer my deepest sympathy to you in this time of loss.

I’ve never met Bill but I’ve heard wonderful things about him over the years from Janice (his daugher). Janice comes into our office regularily and is such a generous soul, I can only imagine what a kind man her father was. My thoughts and prayers are with Janice and her family though this time together.

I first met Bill when I was 11 months old and I grew up in the neighborhood playing and attending school with his son, Martin. Bill’s and his corner grocery were well known and respected on our neck of the street. I remember Bill was always there with a friendly smile or a treat whenever I would stop in to pick up some groceries on my way home after school. I remember his kind heart, his patience and his generosity as well as his quick wit and wry sense of humor. Lorna and I send heartfelt condolences to his family and especially his kids all of whom we continue to call friends. Bill will be remembered fondly and deeply missed. Take care and know he touched so many hearts.
