December 6, 1924 – October 11, 2013
Wilma was born in Virden, Manitoba and grew up in Victoria. She graduated from UBC with a degree in Social Work and was a Social Worker in Nelson, before returning to Victoria.
Wilma was predeceased by her parents, Wilhelmina (Minnie) and Irving Herkes; brother-in-law, Hilton Vasey; sister-in-law, Lois Herkes and her niece, Gina Rawlins. She is survived by her loving sister, Joyce Vasey and her dear brother, Bill Herkes and their families, and her cousin Catherine Ackland.
Wilma, or “Omie”, was kind and passionate, especially for her family. She spent many years caring for her aged parents. She lived a very private and independent life, often digging in her heels to keep it that way. Wilma had an incredible smile that warmed the heart of anyone she shared it with.
The family thanks Sharon Sinclair for being there when Wilma could no longer care for herself, and the staff at Glenwarren Lodge for their wonderful support.
