Zlatko passed away peacefully at his home in Victoria on December 30th with his wife and sons by his side. Zlatko is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rosemary; children, David and Michael; sisters, Ana (Milan) and Stefica (Mark); brothers, Marko (Verica) and Marion (Anka); nieces, Marlene (Bill) and Tina (Rob); nephews, Mladen Rudman, Drazen (Anne), Brian, Danny, Mladen Pulez, and Davor; and several wonderful great-nephews and a lovely great-niece.
Zlatko was born in Budin, Croatia on January 9, 1952. Budin is part of the beautiful vineyard community of Vivodina, where Zlatko spent his youth helping his family with all parts of farm life including tending the vineyards. After completing school and military service, he became interested in moving to Victoria as his older sister, brother-in-law, and brother had done, and was able to do so in 1974. Zlatko immediately started working with family in the construction industry. He loved it, especially carpentry. He worked hard and learned quickly, building and selling his first house within the first 2 years. In the spring of 1976, he met Rosemary, the start of more than 40 happy years together. Zlatko and Rosemary married in February 1979 and in no time had two children and a busy family life. Zlatko loved his family and loved his work. Even in retirement, he spent countless happy days “working” at their recreation property on the West Coast.
Except for the time spent battling cancer, Zlatko lived a full and happy life. He was a much loved son, brother, uncle, and father who will be remembered for his love and kindness to all; his strength and courage; and his many amazing talents.
The family thanks the talented physicians, nurses, and the Victoria Hospice, for the expert treatment and care they provided throughout his illness.
Prayers and Funeral Service will be held at the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Friday, January 6, 2016 at 10:30 AM.
Donations in Zlatko’s name to the BC Cancer Foundation are gratefully accepted www.bccancerfoundation.com.
