Zoya Firtel reposed peacefully and unexpectedly in her sleep in the early morning hours of Friday, July 10, 2009, at Luther Court in Victoria, BC.

Born August 13, 1919 in Almaty, Russia, to Stepan and Zofia Zhakvodistov. In 1945 she married and emigrated, eventually settling in Toronto and then retiring to Victoria in 1978. Predeceased by her husband Joseph, her son Valéry, and her son Max, she leaves a wealth of memories to her son Phillip (Nori), granddaughter Anna, great-grandsons Nathaniel and Alexander, as well as relatives in Ontario and Vancouver, and her many friends in Victoria.

Thanks to the caring people at Mt. Tolmie, Luther Court, St. Sophia Orthodox Church, and McCall’s.
A Pannykhida service will be held at 7:30 pm Wednesday, July 15, and a Funeral service at 10:30 am Thursday, July 16, both at St. Sophia Orthodox Church, 195 Joseph Street, Victoria. There will be a tea at the church following interment at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Memory Eternal.

Zoya with her flowers, Zoya with her stories, Zoya watching the dance recital every year even though Anna no longer danced. Wonderful to remember her joy in all these things.
My love to all her family.
