Alan passed away suddenly on August 23, 2021 at RJH in Victoria. He was born May 25,1947 in Glasgow. Predeceased by his sons Alan and Barry; he will be deeply missed by his wife Julia; his daughters Julie (Keith), Brigitte (Jon) and Toni (Steve); 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
As a young boy he moved from Glasgow to Newhaven in the south of England where he finished his schooling and loved being involved in sports like running and boxing. It was here where he raised his 5 children and met the love of his life Julia. In 1996 they immigrated to Canada where they opened Chef on the Run in Sidney, BC. This past June they celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage together. During this time, they loved to travel the world and spend time with their extensive family. Alan was always known for being sociable, extremely kind and someone who genuinely cared for those around him. A truly legendary man!
A Memorial Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10:00 am, followed by the burial at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Unbelievably sad news to hear of the loss of Alan. We didn’t know him for very long but he certainly made a positive impression on us. We particularly enjoyed his wonderful sense of humour. We are out-of-town for his service and hope to be able to have WIFI in order to view it on line. Our love goes out to all his family.

There is no amount of words that will describe the void that Alan has left behind.
A dear friend for 45 years and the best brother in-law for 40 years. Alan brought so much laughter, love and Joy to everyone he met and everyone’s path he crossed.
Alan was a Gentleman, a businessman but first and foremost a family man.
As a Husband, father, Grandfather, great-grandfather, Uncle, Brother and Brother-in-law, Family was everything to him.
A caring and selfless person with a fabulous witty sense of humour that could always see the bright side and bring a smile to your face.
Family, It was his life, his love, his everything.
He was a great friend to so many, touching lives around the world, bringing joy and laughter to everyone he met. Whether it was a brief encounter or lifetime friendship, Alan will be remembered so very fondly by so many.

It is so sad to hear that Uncle Alan has passed away. He was a great man who brightened up the life of everyone who knew him. My deepest condolences as a man of Alan’s caliber will be missed by so many.

I was very saddened to learn of Alan’s passing. Always friendly, I liked dealing with him or running into him on the street. With his Northern English sardonic wit and modesty, it was impossible not to enjoy his great stories and anecdotes. I wish I had the chance to spend more time with him.

There aren’t enough words to describe Uncle Al. He truly was an inspiration to many and always a genuine person to everyone. You knew in any talk with him you would get some sort of lesson in life or valuable words of wisdom. Larger than life but very down to earth, Al will leave a massive void in the entire family.
Alan’s design and practices have made Chef on the Run a pillar of the Sidney community and a model of excellent customer service. He will be badly, and sadly, missed. We extend to his family and colleagues our deepest sympathy and condolences.
