June 3, 1955 – June 21, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our loving and devoted husband, Dad, Grampie and brother– David Michael Chupick, June 21, 2023, in Victoria, BC.

Survived by his love of 45 years, Sally Chupick. Cherished by his daughters and their families Holly and Jeff; Rachel and Matt, grandchildren Ella and Luke; Jane and Dave and his seven siblings and their families. Eldest son of Juliana and Michael Chupick.

We are finding comfort in the outpouring of love and memories shared by family, friends and colleagues of Dave’s from around the world.

A skilled craftsman in many trades who found joy and pride in his work and helping others.

David was a highly respected and decorated army veteran, serving 28 years in the Canadian Armed Forces before retiring from the military and working with Calian until final retirement in September 2022.

Remembered by those who loved him as loyal, generous, approachable, with a quiet and calm demeanor, and with high moral standards.

We are sad, and we will all mourn this wonderful man, but we will always smile when we
think of him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 2-4pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC.

  1. My deepest condolences to Sally and family.
I was Protestant Chaplain to the Regiment when we went to Cyprus in 93 and Dave’s leadership and example were an inspiration to all of us. A true gentleman and a role model for all of us. May he rest in peace.

  2. Just heard from my dear friend Bill Tait that Dave passed away. I cannot begin to tell the stories that made me so happy to know Dave. He was my Phase 2 Artillery Leader in 1983 ………. No one could present the Gunner Combat uniform better than Dave Chupick. May God grant him Eternal rest.

  3. I met Dave when he was the CO 2 RCHA in 1992. I was a young officer who was trying to find my way. He provided an example of a calm, cool and collected officer that I tried to emulate-with varying degrees of success. He was also a pragmatic man who engaged in practical endeavors and new his way around tools- other qualities I also thought worthy of emulating. I worked with him in the latter years in his capacity as one of the CALIAN leads here in Kingston. He had remained the calm professional as always.

My condolences to Sally and the family.

Rest well Boss. We shall meet again.

  4. To Sally and the Chupick Family. Dave and I frequently crossed paths during our contemporaneous service in The Royal Regiment. His competence and affability made every encounter one I valued and enjoyed. The outpouring of lamentation, respect, and affection on this page is an attestation to his character – so admirable, as it was, in every way. May the knowledge that that Dave was so highly regarded by so many be a source of solace as you, and we, grieve his untimely loss. Respectfully and with heartfelt condolence, Jim Selbie

  5. Dear Sally, Myra, Monica, Tom, Mark, Sonya, Linda and all your families,

It was with a heavy heart I learned this morning of the untimely passing of David. Although I didn’t know him in the later years I remember Sunday visits after mass at the Chupick house and your proud parents Julie and Mike, who displayed photos of you all on the wall. I think of all you as friends, sisters and brothers whom I looked up to including David. I admire David’s service and dedication to his career and family.

Sally, I am deeply sorry for your loss. You are all in my heart and prayers during this difficult time.

    Sending love,

    Wendy White

  6. Very sorry to hear about the passing of Dave. My sincerest condolences to Sally, the Chupick Family and friends. Dave was my first Troop Commander in 1980. A very knowledgeable and professional soldier, a most capable leader, and a fair and thoughtful person toward others. Good journey, and a privilege to have known you good sir.

  7. On behalf of the Calian team, who respected and valued Dave for all of his efforts, support, and mentoring to so many over the years, our sincere condolences. Kevin Ford

  8. My sincere condolences to the family. I had the privilege to work with Dave during the preparation of the 2010 Olympics, the G8/G20 Summits and the preparation of JTFN for Arctic Exercises. He was truly professionnal, not counting working hours. RIP Dave!

  9. You were the best Dave. Until we meet again. RIP.

  10. Dear Sally and family: Colonel Dave and I go back many years. He was a Troop Leader and Troop Commander in E Bty ( Para ) in the early years. When I returned to the Battery a few years later, he was the Battery Commander. He was Commanding Officer in my last Regimental tour. He was friendly, fair, and firm – all hallmarks of the seasoned Officer. His infectious sense of humour will not be forgotten. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. He will be missed in the Regimental Family. “Stand Easy, Sir” UBIQUE
