July 19, 1956 to January 14, 2016

Dave was born in Penticton, BC in 1956. He grew up there and in Sidney, BC. He attended Carmi School, North Saanich High School, Canadian Union College, and British Columbia Institute of Technology. In 1973, the family moved to Edmonton where Dave worked in drafting. Much of his work can still be seen in many buildings in Edmonton and northern Alberta. Dave loved the Island and returned to Sidney in 1992. He was a fixture in and around Sidney and his many friends there will miss his kind heartedness, sense of humor, and generosity.

Dave was predeceased by his father, David; his mother, Freda, as well as his grandparents and many aunts and uncles. He will be very much missed and admired by his Sister Linda Scott, Brother Des Scott, his Aunt Edith Carlson, and many cousins.

Interment will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BCSPCA, 3150 Napier Lane, Victoria, BC        V8T 4V5.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  1. Linda and Des, l am truly sorry for your loss. Dave was a true friend off mine. I got to know Dave pretty well over the last 15 years. I lived next to him at Popeye’s for 10 years and we have kept in contact for the last 5 years through visits and emails. Dave’s email address, craigdarrock@email.com seems very symbolic to his passing. I have sat with Dave watching the local news early in the mornings. The evening of his passing and the next day the local news was doing a story, showing lots of Craigdarrock Castle. I believe that it was his time to go to heaven. Dave, rest in peace. He will be missed but not forgotten. Champion of the Underdog. I love you.

  2. Des and Linda,
So very sorry about the loss of your “Bro”. May he be at peace and may happy memories keep him in your hearts forever.

  3. I am truly sorry for your loss. Des, you and your family are in my prayers. God Bless.

  4. David touched the lives of so many here in Sidney and North Saanich, including mine. He was kind, gentle, good humoured and hardworking, always willing to take on any work or project at my place. Shy at first and quiet, he slowly started to have chats with me and I got to know David, the person. He worked here weekly from early spring to late fall for the past two years and was here just a week before Christmas cleaning up the yard from all the November storms. He took pride in doing a good job. He would arrive on his bicycle, always with that big smile.

I have found out he lived in a caring community of friends and neighbours which gladdens my heart. He will be missed by so many, including myself. My heartfelt condolences to David’s brother Des and sister Linda.

  5. As a neighbor and friend of Dave, I would like to express my condolences to Linda and Des. The world lost a real good man in Dave’s passing, stubborn and obstinate at times, but, a genuine and caring person. He will be sincerly missed by all who knew and cared for him. We have lost a great friend, but Heaven just became a lot more fun and Dave will sure brighten up the place

  6. My sincere condolence to Linda, Des, and family. David and Amy walked by my trailer several times a day and we had numerous opportunities to visit. Amy would announce she was getting close with her little barks. It was obvious to me, through our conversations, that he was so happy this Christmas while you were visiting and that he loved you. David helped me do things at my trailer that were getting too difficult, and when I said thanks it seemed a little awkward for him. He was humble. We knew each other a long time. I remember when he and Jerry moved into the trailer park. Over the years we had our closest friends in common, Ken McPhail and Daphne Sloan. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that David touched so many people’s lives with kindness, and he had many loving friendships.

  7. So sorry for your loss Des and Linda. Rest in Peace Dave.

  8. David taught us, his friends, what the word “friendship” really means. No matter our age, our background, our strengths, or our sins, he accepted and valued each of us for who we are. We didn’t have to change for David to consider us a friend. He took time for people, he visited, and he comforted. His compassion was fathomless. I’m going to miss him so much.

David watched many of his friends from the trailer park pass away over the years from their illnesses and he stood by them until their times came. He was steadfast. He set such an example for us, I hope we can pay it forward. God Bless You David.

  9. Again I wish to give you Linda and Des my deepest heart felt condolences. Drafting, that little sneak, he kept things so close to his chest and one of the most humble humans I have met. We will all grieve in our own way and have unexpected reminders that catch us off guard. Today for example when driving to town I saw a cyclist, I immediately looked to see if it was David, twinge, reminder, cried. I am comforted knowing that you have each other and in meeting you I am comforted because the same loving energy that came from David I felt from both of you so I feel comfort in the fact that I have met you and there is still a connection to David. David was humble, quiet, very witty, generous and a true friend. I will miss David very very much and have been blessed with being his neighbour and friend for eight years. My love to you David (my clansmen) (private joke) and my love now embraces Linda and Des as well. May you heal at your own pace and know David was well loved by many.

  10. I can’t express enough my sense of sadness to learn of David’s passing. My thoughts are with your family during this very difficult time.

Take care of your selves. Take care of each other.

    Harry
