Loran Mauthorne Knudson

Loran went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2015 at the age of 81 years.  He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 12, 1933.  He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; his sons, Loran F. Knudson of Victoria, Murray A. Knudson of Victoria, Miguel A. Knudson of Vancouver, Ronald R. Knudson of Victoria, Edward J. Knudson of Vancouver and his daughter, Damaris M. Galhon (nee Knudson) and her husband Mandeep Galhon both of Victoria.

Loran was an ex-navy man, born during a time when people were of strong character, will and perseverance.  He was an honest man, hardworker, traveller and loved life.  His family was the most important thing to him followed by his garden.  His strength, will and perseverance are what kept him with us all this time.  He will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain Street on Friday, April 17th at 1:30 pm with Father Alfred Alilio officiating.  Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.  Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation in his memory.  Flowers accepted as well.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  1. I’m with heavy heart to the loss of a great man, husband, father and family friend . My condolescences to the Knudson family as Mr Knudson was apart of my life since I was 10 years old as he was a 2nd father figure to me. He was stubborn, strong willed, and funny guy but you always knew where you stood with him. You will be missed! RIP Mr Knudson!

  2. My deepest sympathies to Everyone. I will always remember you Mr K.

You were a great guy and gave me a lot of laughs.

  3. Pop, you were my father, my friend and my hero. You instilled in me so many things. You taught me to be accepting and loving to all mankind and living things. You taught me the value of hard work and honesty. Like you I am a man of few words, but when you spoke we all listened. Life is a little quieter with out you, but I can still hear you every minute of everyday and this puts me at ease. It makes me happy that you aren’t suffering anymore and that you are in the big garden in the sky looking down and protecting us. Pop thank you! You were an amazing man that found an amazing woman and created an amazing family built on love, respect and togetherness. You are my father and I love you.

  4. Dear Teresa and family

  6. I will miss your stories, your vibrant laugh and the best home grown tomatoes! You showed me how a man should truly love and cherish his wife. Gone but not forgotten your greatest qualities can still be seen in your beautiful children.

    Dear Knudson Family:

So sorry to hear the news.

It has been more than few years now since my last visit to the house, but still I have fond and vivid memories of Loran, seated comfortably in the living room amidst green plants and the chaos of family all around him. Children coming-and-going, times changing and the years passing by, alongside Teresa, I remember one other strong constant in the house – and that was Loran. A strong and steady man.

His role as Knudson patriarch has made us better and our world a better place.

We are saddened to say goodbye, and yet we also celebrate Loran, his life and his gifts (a great family !).
