Marjorie King Wellheiser

(1922 – 2010)
Our dear graceful Marjorie passed away peacefully on January 9th at the Victoria Hospice. Born in Winnipeg, she enjoyed happy years in Montreal and later Victoria. Predeceased by her loving husband, Edward in 2002, and earlier by her brother Neil. Much beloved mother and mother-in-law of Johanna and Ian. She will be sadly missed by her other family and friends, near and far.

Compassionate, she did volunteer work for many organizations. Passionate about the arts, she was a creative potter and sculptor; a writer, a reader and a wicked scrabble player. She adored her family, friends and her garden.

Special thanks to the staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital and the Victoria Hospice, and her loving homecare ladies.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Tributes may be made to the Victoria Hospice Foundation, 1510 Fort Street, Victoria, BC V8S 5J2.

Memorial Service at Knox Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 15th at 11:00 am, 2964 Richmond Avenue, Victoria.

  1. My condolences to Marjorie’s family. I worked with her on the Cary Bulletin, the newsletter of the Friends of Government Gardens. As a volunteer, she was always cheerful and willing, and even took on interviewing the daunting George Radford (and charmed him and his partner). I was just another volunteer, but we had a lovely group for several years, with Christmas potlucks, and lots of conversation. This didn’t last but Marjorie remains in my memory: she was the ONLY person who ever commented that I was a very busy person, something I really appreciated as a part-time worker with children. She was very feminine and beautiful–movie star looks but also inside with the deeper beauty of a positive thinking woman. I still have her recipes for her delicious cookies (she wrote them out by hand!), and I will think of her every Christmas.

  2. All of us have been so saddened by the loss of your very dear, very precious Mom, Johanna & Ian. She was a gem; & yes, a gentle & gracious lady, who loved us all! What wonderful family occasions & times were spent & enjoyed by us, in the company & hospitality of dear Uncle Ed & Aunt Marjorie! We will treasure all these memories! (& pictures, too!)

  5. Marjorie was a wonderful friend and an inspiration to us all at both Mount Royal United Church And our Pottery studio.
I was saddened to hear that she had died but have such endearing memories of the many great times we had together.
We have put an announcement in our Sunday bulletin and mentioned that the beautiful clay Creche on our communion table was created by Marjorie. We place it there every Christmas and it is always admired.
I will never forget this gentle, lovely lady whose great talent even enspired her to make a magnificent flower arrangement with bright orange carrots popping up amongst the yellow flowers!
It has been a great joy to have known Marjorie and an honour to have her friendship.
