Marlene and Doug met in high school and married in 1967. They enjoyed a beautiful life filled with family, love and faith. Following retirement, they spent many winters in Arizona with a tight knit friend group. Marlene was an avid tennis player, later taking on the sport of pickle ball. She and Doug travelled extensively. At home she loved to entertain and you could guarantee her meals were followed by many recipe requests. The family wish to thank Dr. Sarah MacEwan for her medical care, kindness and attention above and beyond. Marlene adored her.

Dear Doug, Leanne, Marcy and Scott and children, I would like to add my voice to all those sending condolences, revealing the incredible number of lives Marlene touched and impacted. I will never forget her amazing kindness and hospitality toward me and Dave, when he brought me over from Israel on so many occasions to stay in Victoria. She went to so much trouble to make me feel welcomed and comfortable, and I so appreciated getting to know the members of this wonderful family that she and Doug have nurtured. And all those fantastic family get-togethers! Marlene had a rich and full life, and graced us all with her loving and beautiful presence. She also had a strong faith and I admired immensely her courage and grace during those difficult last years. She leaves so many blessed memories for so many, and I know that they will be comforting you during this time of grief. Sending my thoughts and prayers for comfort and shalom with much love, Lesley

Please accept our sincere condolences on Marlene’s passing. May you find some comfort in knowing that your loss is shared by many who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Doug and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Marlene was such a kind, caring and considerate person. She was so proud of her family.
I was grateful to have met her and admired her ability to encompass those around her even if they were new acquaintances.
May she rest in peace.

We met Marlene and Doug in Arizona where we and others became friends in Casa Grande. What a great friendship in our memories. We had a small group of golfers, men against women, who played once a week at Palm Creek. Over several seasons we men only won once! We learned the Blake Walk over that win! Me (Gary) was always blamed for giving the women too many handicap strokes. Each fall when we all returned to Palm Creek and Casa Grande, when I (Gary) would first meet Marlene and Doug for the season – Marlene before even saying hello would always say to me “Gary I want more strokes this season”. What could I say for a woman who had the most amazing personality and cooked so many wonderful meals for us all. I took the meals over the gripping from the guys over the strokes issue. And a few of us can also recall the “Pointer Sisters” who showed up one day on Hole 18 as we awaited the women to finish us off with another defeat. Marlene was part of that “Pointer Sister” group, details of which will remain a secret to our little group.
Lillie and I were indeed blessed to have known Marlene and Doug and that wonderful group from Victoria. They accepted us stubble jumpers as one of their own, which again included us in those fantastic Marlene Meals!
Our deepest condolences for an amazing person with whom we were so fortunate to have as a friend.
You are in a good place Marlene and we will all meet again at the 19th hole.
Gods Peace to all.

Doug, Leanne, Marcy, Scott and families. I am so sorry to hear of Marlene’s passing after such a courageous and gracious fight with her illness. Marlene was my nursing classmate RJH Class Jan ’68. We were and are a “sisterhood” and after all these years would have our reunions and it was like we were all 18 again and never been apart!! Marlene was such a beautiful person-inside and out, with a great zest for life and such a fantastic sense of humour. She hosted an open house for our last reunion in May of 2023, and as everyone knows she was one super hostess!! My love and thoughts are with you all.
Dear Doug and Family
There are no words to say how sorry we are for your loss of Marlene. She was the very best Wife, Mom , Grandma , Great Grandma and Friend.
She always included her friends in all her plans. Nothing was too much trouble.
Large dinner parties, 5 or 6 courses!!
Trips to Palm Springs, hockey trips, golf trip to Australia and New Zealand and our winters spent together in Arizona. Fun memory of Steve trying to teach her to ride a bike. So many laughs over the years. Marlene you will be missed beyond measure.
Thank you Marlene and Doug for including us in all the fun. Everyone will feel the loss of Marlene.
Love Ann & Steve xoxo
I can only echo the sentiments my sister Diane expressed in her message to the Richardson family’
Marlene was our ‘other’ sister’ since she was born.
Our families have been very close throughout the years. We spent many Christmas holidays together at Aunt Mary’s house. We always managed to be together to enjoy the ‘special’ occasions that appeared over the years.
I will miss her so much. Love Sharon
Dear Doug and family,

She was so supportive, kind, understanding and such good company with a great sense of humor Her family was so very important to her. She had such a strong faith and we had many discussions about that over the last few years as she went through her health challenges. There are no words to say how much she will be missed.
Our dear dear friend Marlene. Thankyou for all the happy times we spent with our growing families
and as we grew older together.
