Robert Alois Katzer

November 17, 1928 – January 30, 2015 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather Bob Katzer. Bob immigrated to Canada from Leipzig, Germany in 1939. Bob joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1947 and served his country for many years. When he retired he pursued a successful career in Real Estate. He devoted much of his spare time to the church and community. Bob married Ruth Huddleston on June 28, 1950. Bob dearly loved and was very proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; children Russell, Lee-Ann (Don), Robert and grandchildren, Corey and Michael Venn; sister-in-law, Vivian Katzer; niece, Janice (Harvey) and nephew Grant. Bob was a very dedicated, honest, loving man who will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank Claire & Rebecca for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 am. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2964 Tillicum Rd. 1. It might sound superstitious but it was true. People might think that I must be out of my mind if I had to say that the late Katzer asked me to find him on the internet…which I did. I was first shocked, and then saddened to find out the passing of Mr. Katzer on the internet. Fond memories with him came flushing to my mind. I used to come around his house during the years of 1982-86. He was a stern and disciplined man, loved his wife and family very much. He was a generous man with great sense of humor, offered great meals to his guests. I remembered spending a long weekend camping with him and his family up Island once. It was quite an experience navigating with him on a speed boat. Since I left Canada for goods in the summer of 1986, I have not been in touch with the Katzers for almost 30 years. My belated and heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Mrs. Katzer, and family, especially to Russell, Lee-Ann and Rob.

  2. So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing and to have missed his memorial service. Many fond memories of my time as his “boss”/trainee in MacKenzie in the 70s and the many connections for years after. Particularly remember the supply division get togethers at your place and watching TV with your racoons spying in from the tree outside the window.
The many people he mentored over his Naval career I am sure join with us in offering our heartfelt condolences to you and the family .

  3. Mrs. Katzer, Russell, Lee-Ann and Rob, sorry to read about your loss. I remember spending countless hours at your home when I was young, always feeling welcome. I recall Mr. Katzer, driving us to swimming and various events. I remember his sense of humour, his solid steady character (as appropriate for an old chief) and that he always struck me as a gentleman. Mr. Katzer was always kind to me, whenever during recent years we ran into each other in the neighbourhood he always had a welcoming smile and a few kind words of greetings. I always was happy to have run into Mr. and Mrs. Katzer afterward. My condolences to the family over your loss.

  4. Ruth……I’m so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was a wonderful man and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  5. When I think of Bob Katzer the first word that comes to mind is “welcoming”. I have been friends with his sons Robert and Russell for over three decades and knew their father for his welcoming, open and friendly nature. You always feel like you are a member of the family when you visit the Katzer home; I have enjoyed many meals there, as well as raiding the raspberry bushes.

My warmest condolences to the Katzer family in this time of loss. Bob’s generous nature and our fond memories of him will live long after his passing
