I remember Sam’s first visit on his own to the Back Alley Deli to purchase a Bran muffin for his dad who was waiting in the car. He was so so proud of himself. He was about 5 or 6 at the time. That memory has always stuck with me years after the event. I am so sad to hear of his passing. Marylou Starkey.

Words cannot describe how heartbroken we are. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and with Sam. Sam will never be gone in our hearts.

For love is immortality.”

To Sam,
I will miss you forever. You were one of my first and best friends. The bonds we forged in childhood were strong enough to last a lifetime. I have so many happy memories with you that I will cherish forever. You were such a charismatic and energetic person. I always looked up to you and felt lucky that you were my friend. Wherever you are now, I hope you find rest and that we will meet again one day. Love Nick
Sam, Sam I love you, I find it beyond difficult to type these words. I’m not sure they are needed, I’m not sure this is real, I know that our 25+ years of friendship was the realist thing I have ever been involved with. I have known nothing but your friendship my entire life.
I have felt nothing but strength, wisdom, and love from you our entire lives. Stories, there are too many, way too many. I’m crying uncontrollably, I can’t stop, I have never felt this way, I have been crushed, beyond crushed, I so figured, but I would talk to you and you would empathize so brilliantly with me. Things would carry on, new opportunities would arise, as you said so sensibly.
I would look to you for wisdom, the comforting and knowing words that only you could produce. You have always been the smartest and most understanding person I have ever met.
I shared my deepest and darkest secrets with you, and you me, our humour being at the heart of it all.
I have never felt prouder than when you have given me compliments, I have never held anyone’s word in such esteem. I have never felt as energized as when we would hang out, your honesty and integrity was so real it was impossible to miss.
Everyone who was lucky enough to have met you knows the feeling. The sense of your presence, it was like nothing else, completely visceral, I could feel you from three rooms away, your laugh, your voice, it was exhilarating.
Sam, I am so sorry, I am at a total loss, I love you so much.
Harry and family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful son.
My heartfelt condolences.

Dear Jan, Harry and Wes,
We are so deeply saddened to learn this terrible news. Sam will always have a special place in our hearts as we remember the fun times we shared with him at the baseball park, on a ski trip to Mount Washington and on a summer holiday on Savary Island, to name a few. He was a good friend to Nicholas and a great guy to have at our home. We send you our love at this most difficult of times. Nils, Jean, Nicholas and Stewart

An incredible guy who made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Through little league ball, Sam was one of the first people I met when we moved to Victoria. He was one of those people who could make anything look easy, all while smiling and joking. Sam, you will be missed.
