It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of “The Captain’s” final voyage on March 3rd, 2023, at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. We created a beautiful, loving and peaceful environment for his farewell, and his sense of humour was with him to the end. He is survived by his wife Jane, children David, Marston and Hayley (Conor), granddaughters (Nadia, Charlie, Rowan, Sloane) and sisters Tish, Gail (Fred), Cindy and Joan.
Scott was born in Toronto to parents, Scott and Kay. He graduated from McGill University (BEng) and completed his MBA in Ottawa. His drive, intellect and charisma led him to a very successful career as the Managing Partner of Deloitte’s Consulting Practice (1978-1994) and eventually the Calgary Office Managing Partner (1994-2002). Scott and Jane lived a beautiful and fulfilling life in Calgary for 28 years, raising their 3 children, built upon community and friendships.
Following his retirement, his love of the ocean drew them to Sidney, BC, where sailing the “Lady Jane” became his passion, as well as tennis, biking, piano and being a Grandpa to his four granddaughters. Scott’s generosity touched the lives of so many people. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on through his children and grandkids.
Our sincere thanks to staff at the BC Cancer Centre and SPH Palliative Care Unit, in particular Naren (BC Cancer), Dr. A Lewis (SPH), and Dr. I McKenzie (SPH). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 31, Brentwood Bay (RCM-SAR 31) and Saanich Peninsula Hospital. We celebrated Scott’s life on March 15th, 2023, at 2:00 PM PST, at McCall Gardens Funeral Home (4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC).

To Jane and family from Scott’s family down under.
As you farewell Scott at 5.00am Perth time, we will not be able to join you via Zoom. However, we will be thinking of you and remembering all the wonderful summers we spent in Muscoka, swimming, sailing, and generally enjoying the water and each other. Our prayers will be with all of you.
Having worked closely with Scott for more than 15 years, I have memories of him as Captain of many projects and teams. I recall he wanted to retire to a nautical lifestyle in a beautiful setting to be a different kind of Captain; just wish for all your sakes that he could have been there with you for longer. My condolences to Jane and her family.
Dear Jane and family, we are so sorry to hear about Scott and offer our sincere condolences.
Dear Jane and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I heard so many lovely stories about Scott, sailing and your family while hiking with Jane. May you support and hug each other in the time to come as you mourn Scott’s death and eventually return to happy memories. My thoughts are with you.

To Jane and Family … I had the pleasure of working with Scott during our years together at Deloitte, which left me with many fond and delightful memories. My sincere condolences go out to all.
I knew Scott well during his time in the ottawa office. He was a real professional and above all, to use an old fashioned but still apt expression, a gentleman. I was happy to learn that his short years of retirement
were so varied and happy ones.
My sympathy to all the family.

I saw in Scott a very encouraging and supportive father. My experience with Scott was limited, but what I did see was a very friendly and gracious person. He blessed Dave in his efforts at the coffee shop years ago. He helped Dave through the arrangements of his marriage and step child. He was the kind of Dad we can applaud and hope to emulate in a lot of ways.
My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to the Owens family. I have received nothing but love, generosity, and open arms from this family and experienced firsthand the humour, kindness, and consideration of Mr. Owens when he took us all out sailing on the Lady Jane. May his memory be a blessing to us all. ♥️️
Herb and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family in the passing of your dear Scott. May memories help ease your grief and always keep him near.
