It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of “The Captain’s” final voyage on March 3rd, 2023, at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. We created a beautiful, loving and peaceful environment for his farewell, and his sense of humour was with him to the end. He is survived by his wife Jane, children David, Marston and Hayley (Conor), granddaughters (Nadia, Charlie, Rowan, Sloane) and sisters Tish, Gail (Fred), Cindy and Joan.
Scott was born in Toronto to parents, Scott and Kay. He graduated from McGill University (BEng) and completed his MBA in Ottawa. His drive, intellect and charisma led him to a very successful career as the Managing Partner of Deloitte’s Consulting Practice (1978-1994) and eventually the Calgary Office Managing Partner (1994-2002). Scott and Jane lived a beautiful and fulfilling life in Calgary for 28 years, raising their 3 children, built upon community and friendships.
Following his retirement, his love of the ocean drew them to Sidney, BC, where sailing the “Lady Jane” became his passion, as well as tennis, biking, piano and being a Grandpa to his four granddaughters. Scott’s generosity touched the lives of so many people. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on through his children and grandkids.
Our sincere thanks to staff at the BC Cancer Centre and SPH Palliative Care Unit, in particular Naren (BC Cancer), Dr. A Lewis (SPH), and Dr. I McKenzie (SPH). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 31, Brentwood Bay (RCM-SAR 31) and Saanich Peninsula Hospital. We celebrated Scott’s life on March 15th, 2023, at 2:00 PM PST, at McCall Gardens Funeral Home (4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC).

Dear Jane and Family
I had written one condolence but don’t see it here so please accept our sincere condolences. We have such fond memories of our friendship in Bonavista. Many great memories and time together. I watched the Celebration of Life and everyone did a wonderful send off and a true celebration for a great man.
Hugs,

I am the fourth of the amigos on Grosvenor Avenue in Westmount. The four of us were inseparable from Grade 9-11. We hitchhiked to school everyday but in fact our Latin teacher, Miss Wales, picked us up always at the corner of Lansdowne and Westmount Avenue.
We would also play basketball behind Scott’s house at the Hamilton’s. A young Avril Hamilton was always present to watch, Scott in particular, as we played a very aggressive game usually the four of us against better players especially Ross Drysdale who was on the school team.
The last time I saw Scott was on a flight to or from Calgary in the 90’s. We chatted at the back of the plane and picked up the conversation effortlessly. No need to fill in any blanks. Friendships are to be treasured forever.
Very sad to hear we are missing Scottie. But wonderful to hear the all the stories by you, his children about how special your dad was. Many of them reminded me of the Scottie I knew growing up together. I lived about 4 doors up the street from Scottie. Four of us (with Bobby and Timmy) used to walk or ride to school together daily and enjoyed many a game of scrimmage basketball behind the house. Fond memories of a very special guy! And, he was always focused on becoming an engineer from very early on.
Very sorry to of Scotty’s passing. Scott and I were next door neighbors on Grosvenor and shared many adventures together both in Westmount and on Lake Mempheremagog . Some adventures must remain untold, but we survived and had the best memories. Scott, Timmy, Robbie and I made up the four amigos through high school. The memories will be cherished.

We are so very sorry to hear of Scott’s passing. He will be missed in the neighbourhood. Our sincere condolences to Jane and family.
We were very surprised and shocked to hear of Scott’s passing. We will always remember him as a very strong, handsome man, very full of life. We offer our most sincere condolences to Jane and the family at this very sad time.
Having just learned of Scott’s sad passing, it gave me immediate pause to reflect on his wonderful mentorship and influence on my career and life. I was a young senior manager, about to become a partner, when I met Scott in the Calgary office. I admired and respected him instantly, and he supported my development as a young partner for years to come in his role as Managing Partner. He also introduced me to sailing in Sidney, and inspired me to take it up myself. He shaped my partnership skills in a very demonstrative way, and I owe much of my career to his thoughtful mentorship and support. My condolences to Jane and family, Scott was a wonderful man.

Deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. Our thoughts are with you.
Dear Jane, Dave and Family; we are so very sorry for your loss. Scott left you a legacy of fun and kindness. We hope you find comfort in your memories of wonderful times together. Deep condolences as you navigate these different waters without your “Captain”.
Hi Jane. I just watched the whole video of Scott’s memorial service today on my phone at our casa in Baja Mexico. It is hard to believe that when I return to Canada in late April, I will not be seeing him on the tennis courts. When he was my partner, I would try hard to help him win because I knew that it gave him great pleasure. I always loved his famous signature shot which I dubbed his “slider”. As your kids pointed out frequently, Scott had a wonderful sense of self-deprecating humour. I loved teasing him about his play on the court because I got a kick out of his great laugh. I also noted that Hayley used the word “lumbering” to describe him going up the stairs…..I too used that word often to refer to him running across the court. He playfully pretended that it was such an insult. And that sailboat!!! I often told him that it was the most beautiful boat on the island and I often asked if he was selling it. Hopefully one of the kids will decide to keep it in the family. Anyway, I will definitely miss the big guy. And he certainly left behind an amazing family! Hope you can go on with your life….Scott would certainly want that. Xox
