It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife and mother on April 9, 2023. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Norman and Olive Holland and eldest daughter Cindy-Lou Myers. She is survived by her husband John (Jack) and her children Tim Myers (son-in-law), Michelle (Rod), Kellie (Tony), Sonya (Adam) and her grandchildren Frederick and Jacob Miles. Also, her brother Bruce Holland (Louise) and their family, sister Marilyn Wilson and bother-in-law Roy Westaway.

Shirley was a very active member of the United Church of Canada and the churches she attended, as well as the Victoria Quilters’ Guild, BC Hydro Power Pioneers, Victoria Branch.

The family would like to thank Dr. G. Chew and Dr. B. Schwartzentruber, the staff at VIHA and Victoria Hospice for the care and compassion they provided Shirley during her remaining time with us.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Centennial United Church, 612 David Street on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2pm. Donations can be made in memory of Shirley to BC Cancer Society or Victoria Hospice.

  1. We all know how terribly difficult it is to lose a loved one. I deeply sympathize with you, Jack, and your children. I fondly remember our happy associations in Gordon Head United Church. This is a favourite quote of mine that I used in Russ’s memorial service:
“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
    Peace be with you.

  2. Our sympathies to Jack and family. I often saw Shirley and Jack working in her yard and helping our neighbor in winter with snow removal. She will certainly be missed on our street. Mildred Pl. neighbor, Denis and Patricia St.Onge

  4. Shirley was such a gracious hostess to Baby Quilts, offering her front foyer with kindness and friendship during Covid times and before finding our new location. She epitomized consideration and thankless giving in the quilt guild. We are so fortunate to have known her, my heart goes to Jack and family for your loss will be profound.

  5. When I worked at Gordon Head United Church, Shirley (and Jack) was a key and keen volunteer. Shirley was a very active, hands-on type of person. She created a number of beautiful quilted tapestries that added to our church ambiance. Shirley will be truly missed as the matriarch of the family. Best to Jack and the whole family.
