Susan Yet Shue Lui

Surrounded by family and friends, Susan Yet Shue Lui, 71, died peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC on November 13, 2021. Susan was born in Taishan, China and travelled with her mother to Vancouver in the late 1950’s to be reunited as a family with her father who had previously immigrated to Canada.

She attended school in the Dunbar and Strathcona neighborhoods and completed high school at Britannia. Susan enrolled in pharmacy school at UBC and landed her first full time job as a community pharmacist within weeks of graduating in 1977. She provided care to patients in Penticton and then Sidney over a 36-year professional career. Susan had a zest for life and her passions included gardening, outdoor activities, running, entertaining, and testing her knowledge watching Jeopardy. She made friends easily and was always keen to try new experiences like taking up golfing when she was 50 and learning how to ride a bicycle at the age of 60.

Susan was devoted throughout her life to her family and is survived by her three younger siblings Gordon (Laura), Harvey (May), and Cynthia (Gregory). She cherished her nieces and nephews Heather, Meghan, Allison, Nicholas, Tamara, Dylan, and Lauren, as well as her cat Cali. She was predeceased by her parents Chow Hon and Sue Kam Lui, and by her beloved partner Robert “Bob” Adams. Her family is deeply grateful to all the friends and health care professionals who supported Susan on her final life’s journey.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, a Celebration of Life for family and friends originally planned for January will now be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2PM in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens. Those wishing to join virtually may do so by clicking here.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In memoriam donations can be made to the ALS Society of BC  https://www.alsbc.ca/donate/  or the charity of your choice.

  2. To Gordon, Harvey, Cyndi and families…
Memories of those we love live forever in our hearts!
And Susan leaves many significant memories … her amazing testimony of her faith in God, her sense of humor (which she enjoyed as much as everyone else!), her helpful and immense botanical and pharmaceutical knowledge, her dinner parties, warm afternoons with friends and Cali on her back deck. What a huge void she leaves❤️ I miss her!

  3. Susan was a live wire in our hiking and skiing club and was sorely missed when she moved to Sydney, and now will be missed more than ever. Always a cheerful voice on the phone. May she rest in peace. Condolences, Harvey, Gordon and Cindy.

  4. To Gordon, Harvey and Cyndi. . I share your deep sense of loss on the passing of our beloved Susan. You have loved and cared well for her. She now rests In Peace. Her integrity and positive character traits in the life she lived touched many and will remain with us forever. Though regrettably I did not get to spend time with Susan in her more active years, I am grateful for what we did share together and shall always remember the joy of those times. With deepest sympathy.

  7. I only knew Susan through my interactions with her and my sister Sue. When I did see her, she was always such a great conversationalist! She was a bright light and I know that my sister valued her friendship greatly. My condolences to the family. I am sorry for your loss.

  8. Hello Harvey – I am so sorry to hear of Susan’s passing, but grateful that she did not suffer for an extended period. The obituary is a lovely tribute to her. My daughter, Leilan, lives next door to your other sister Cynthia and Greg. Vancouver is a pretty small town after all. Harvey, I hope you are well and finding lots of joy in life. Sincerely, Anne Francis

  9. I’m devastated by the loss of Susan. She and I have been friends since high school. Even though, we didn’t see each other very often, we always kept in touch through facebook. I will always love her and keep her in my heart. Sorry for your loss, she was an amazing person.

  10. To Harvey, Gordon, and Cyndy I just heard of Susan’s passing and I want to offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences. Sue loved her family and it was always first in her life. Susie was a great friend, and after she left Shoppers, returned to see me in Penticton several times to re-establish that friendship. She was an exemplary pharmacist and my store benefited greatly from her dedication as did I personally. She will be missed. Russ Cutler
