September 6, 1948 – October 16, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Milton Hodgson, at the age of 64, at Victoria Hospice in Victoria, BC. Wayne will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his family and the many friends he had in Victoria and around the world. Born in Victoria, Wayne lived his life to the fullest. After retiring from many years as an accountant with the BC government, he enjoyed worldwide travel as a cruise ship dance host, ballroom dancing, music, singing, biking and photography. He was also a popular DJ and provided the music and entertainment at many dances and weddings.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 26, 2012 in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel (Johnson & Vancouver Streets, Victoria, BC), followed by a reception in McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, 4th Floor, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC, V8R 1J8. Condolences may be offered below.

Wayne was a very special friend. I knew him best here in Sequim when we were biking and kayaking along the isolated coast east of my home. He visited often on his trips to Port Angeles and Port Townsend for local dances and music festivals. He spent many hours in my front room managing his photos on his computer. His smiling face and concern for everyone will be sorely missed by us all. Fortunately we have his many photos on Smugmug, Dance Host, to help remember him. My heartfelt condolences to his mother and the rest of his family. Good-bye to one of my closest friends.

I have known Wayne since 1999, we shared some special times in the early years of our dancing journey. I know he will continue to dance in his new home. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I have a few quotes which I have really appreciated over the years. This one I give to you.
I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. Leo Buscaglia
That is very sad news. I didn’t know Wayne very well but I had the pleasure of dancing with him on occasion at Wednesday practice. He was a lovely dancer and a gentleman. My deepest sympathies to his family.
I feel very fortunate to have met Wayne and experience his kindness and sense of pure fun when dancing in Victoria. He has set a fine example for others to follow by living his life to the fullest…..he will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences go out to his family.
I met Wayne a few years ago dancing on the Crystal cruise line as he was an Ambassador Host. I have fond memories of the many evenings we danced together in Starlit to the best music in the world. I am saddened by his passing and know he will be missed by many on the ship.
Wayne was well respected by his colleagues in the public service. After his retirement he kept us entertained, and envious, with his travel stores. It was always nice to see him when he dropped into a dance when he was in town. He lived life to the fullest and greeted everyone with a warm smile. We will miss Wayne.
Wayne was one of the first people that I met in the ballroom community who so freely gave you the privilege of having a beautiful flowing dance with him. His smile would light up any room. His gentle mannerisms and kind gestures were always well received and appreciated. I wish to express my gratitude and thanks for having had the pleasure to be touched by Wayne’s life. My heartfelt condolences are with his family at this time.
May your spirit always be dancing Wayne…..
Every time I saw Wayne he always had a smile on his face and he was always up beat, he was such a gentle soul. He was great to dance with and always had something nice to say and very humerus too….he was a true gentleman…he will be sorely missed….my sincere condolences go out to his family.
Wayne was a kind and caring person, always such a gentleman, and a wonderful individual. He will be greatly missed. My heart and tears are with his family.
I knew Wayne many years ago from working with the BC Government and then after retirement from encountering him in ballroom dance lessons. Wayne always took time to stop by, when biking down our street, to share his travel adventures. He kept us posted on his whereabouts while cruising the seven seas and dancing his heart away. He was a kind and generous man always keen on volunteering for fundraisers and giving his time in the form of music, dancing or photography. I will always remember Wayne complimenting Michiel and I on our Quickstep and how he was always smiling and happy to be on the planet. Wayne was a kind soul and will be missed by all of us in the dance community. Merci Wayne pour ton amitiée et toutes tes gentillesses.
