September 6, 1948 – October 16, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Milton Hodgson, at the age of 64, at Victoria Hospice in Victoria, BC. Wayne will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his family and the many friends he had in Victoria and around the world. Born in Victoria, Wayne lived his life to the fullest. After retiring from many years as an accountant with the BC government, he enjoyed worldwide travel as a cruise ship dance host, ballroom dancing, music, singing, biking and photography. He was also a popular DJ and provided the music and entertainment at many dances and weddings.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 26, 2012 in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel (Johnson & Vancouver Streets, Victoria, BC), followed by a reception in McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, 4th Floor, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC, V8R 1J8. Condolences may be offered below.

My heartfelt condolences go to Wayne’s mum, Tina and the family.
With his untiring energy for community, his thoughful and caring nature and fanastic sense of humour and musicality, Wayne was a shining example of a great human being. He touched the lives of so many people, from all walks of life, that he is sorely missed.
Over the years, I was most fortunate to have spent many happy hours dancing with Wayne. And when it is my time to go to that big ballroom in the sky, I hope that he saves a dance for me.
What a wonderful man! Always willing and happy to help out with a smile and a song. He helped out at dance demonstrations in Senior Residences when he could. At dances, the carefully chosen music he played with cheerful abandon was enjoyed by all. Besides the dance milieu – Wayne was appreciated by an immense number of ordinary people.
His passing is untimely and sad. He will be sorely missed.
We can’t believe you are gone from us! You were Mr. Super Energy – with your enthusiasm for life – dance, photography…. Just seeing you at dance practice – with your smile and presence – made me want to dance! And I saw many of your photographs that you took for others…. you could certainly capture the moment. And personally – thank you for helping me organize dinners – when I first came to Victoria – for other dancers to meet each other. And thank you for your smile. I think you must be ‘up there’ teaching the others… perhaps the quickstep! I wonder if they could keep up with you…. I sure couldn’t. You are missed. Much love Jo
It is hard to believe you are gone! You were always Mr. Super Energy – and could dance any dance – with such enthusiasm. As you did the rest of your life. You affected many people with your contagious smile and keeness. Just seeing you at dance practice – made me want to dance! But I could never keep up with you…. We will miss your presence. And thanks for organizing so many things – personally – thanks for helping me and sharing in dinners – for other dancers (and myself) to get acquainted with – when I first moved to Victoria 13 years ago. You did so many things well. I have seen many of the photographs you have taken for others. Wayne, I think you must be dancing in Heaven already. Perhaps you are teaching them the quickstep. Missing you – Jo
My parents moved into Dean House when it was still being built in 1972. Consequently I have known Wayne ever since he moved here. The snowfall of 1996 had Wayne bringing Chinese Food to my home for New Year’s Eve (he walked a long way) just so I would have company. Very kind! He and I also cooked a dinner for quite a number of our Dean House neighbours one year. He will be missed.
I have met Wayne on the Crystal cruise line many times for 8 years.
In this February we met again on the Crystal then we get know eachother more deeply .
We started to go around together ,but cancers were already existed in his body.
I wanted to cure him and try my best as I can.
We were dancing in the hospice on his last day of the 16th October .
I was hamming with beautiful dance music and hold his hand and gripping with the rhythm.
It seemed he looks happy.
I think he is dancing in the heaven forever .
I`m very pleased of him because I was chosen by him as the last partner for his life .
He gave me wonderful memories and happiness and he was the magnificent person .
Loving memories of my uncle Wayne…
He was always joyful and happy, and pleased with everything in life both small and big, from having a cup of coffee to the wonderful sights of the countless places he went to
He would find the time for everything, moving around throughout Victoria and helping coordinate events and parties as the mc, dj and of course expert dance host
Above all, his kindness and strong loving connections he had with family and friends is what we will all remember
I remember him showing me his large baseball card collection when I was a young boy, I remember him driving me around to play golf when I visited Victoria, I remember him always being around for celebrations and dinners – he did so much for me as my uncle and I was be forever grateful. I can’t believe I won’t see him again but his memory will live on in my heart forever
Dear Wayne,
You will always be alive in my memories. Hiking, dancing, cooking, eating, talking, are only a few things that our group did together. In every thing you did, you put your heart to it. You enriched our lives with your traveling sorties and pictures. Farewell dear Wayne.
Sorry you had to leave us Wayne. I see now that you have been preparing us over the last several years for this pending loss by traveling for months on end with your dance cruises. The various communities you have left behind are the big losers here and we will all miss you a lot. I personally will celebrate a life well lived. You have left many examples of how it is done. Condolences to family and friends. Murray
The memories of Wayne reach far back to the days when his parents had their summer cabin at Willis Point on Brentwood Bay, then on to Mt. Doug High School and on into adulthood. He was the treasurer for the school reunions over the years. I can still see him happily punching the numbers into his calculator watch. Our group became called the “Nerds” and Wayne kept us entertained with his stories. His laughter and ours still rings in the homes of our meetings. So many happy memories, such a nice guy, always ready for the next adventure. My deepest sympathies to his Mom, Brother and family and his Daughter and Son.
He’ll be dancing in the clouds.
