June 3, 1955 – June 21, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our loving and devoted husband, Dad, Grampie and brother– David Michael Chupick, June 21, 2023, in Victoria, BC.

Survived by his love of 45 years, Sally Chupick. Cherished by his daughters and their families Holly and Jeff; Rachel and Matt, grandchildren Ella and Luke; Jane and Dave and his seven siblings and their families. Eldest son of Juliana and Michael Chupick.

We are finding comfort in the outpouring of love and memories shared by family, friends and colleagues of Dave’s from around the world.

A skilled craftsman in many trades who found joy and pride in his work and helping others.

David was a highly respected and decorated army veteran, serving 28 years in the Canadian Armed Forces before retiring from the military and working with Calian until final retirement in September 2022.

Remembered by those who loved him as loyal, generous, approachable, with a quiet and calm demeanor, and with high moral standards.

We are sad, and we will all mourn this wonderful man, but we will always smile when we
think of him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 2-4pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC.

Ubique.

  1. Sorry to hear of David’s sudden passing. Thoughts and prayers to everyone.

  2. Dear Sally and the Chupick Clan:
The news reached us in Australia and we are still getting over the shock. Our hearts go out to you. Dave was an outstanding man and leader. He was one of the best CO’s I ever served and I was telling some of my young officers about him and our time in Cyprus not too long ago. The example he set then remains with me to this day. It is small comfort at this terrible time but the messages here are a small indication of how well Dave was liked and how much respect we all have for him.
We are better for having known him.

  3. To the Chupick family, my sincere condolences. I served with Dave in Gagetown as an Instructor-in-Gunnery many years ago and remember him as one of the finest people I ever met.

  4. I was shocked to learn of Dave’s sudden passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I liked Dave having known him for a long time. He was a great guy and I and many others were better for having known him.

Devastating news. I knew Dave professionally, as an exchange officer in Petawawa and when he came as a student to the Army Staff College at Camberley, and as a very good friend and neighbour. I do not recall having anything but a good time with Dave. My children, Lydia and Leo, entirely echo that sentiment. Who else would come out at 6:00 am to take 8 year old Leo fishing?! Dave, we will all miss you terribly.

  6. Dear Sally,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

  7. Dear Rachel,
My deepest sympathy to you and your mom and sisters. I know this must be a very difficult time for all of you. Sending all my love and prayers.

  8. Dear Sally and Family Chupick. Our sincere condolences for your loss. Dave was a great man and a remarkable CO. He was above all calm and patient. I will always remember his kind and forgiving nature when some of my junior officer antics got out of control (Cyprus and ceiling fans). I looked up to him very much and he was always a stellar example for all of us to follow. Respect. Eileen and I will miss him dearly. RIP Sir. Airborne, Ubique, Stand Easy. Eileen and “Ranger” Fred.

  9. Our sincere condolences to you Sally, your kids and the Chupick family. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Andy and Bonnie Laturnus

  10. My sincere condolences to the family and close friends of Dave. I was so very lucky to have known him while working at CFB Kingston. He would talk to me about his stones that he tumbled for jewellery as I made jewellery and sold at craft shows. We chatted about our retirement as well, as I left shortly after Dave. He was so excited for he and his wife to go to Victoria and enjoy family and life. I’m very happy he at least got to spend some quality years doing what he had worked all his life for. Unfortunately, he was way too young to be taken away. He was a very calm, quiet respectful man and he was totally respected by all of his peers and friends.
