  1. To the family of Dr. Das: I am so sorry for your loss. I owe my right arm to Dr. Das. I am sure I am not unique in that regard. I will never forget his skill, knowledge and kindness to me when in July of 1975 he screwed my right elbow back together again after I was in a bicycle accident. My body eventually rejected the 5″ titanium screw so it had to be removed. But just as Dr. Das said, if I continued to exercise my arm, I would gain 90% usage back. Actually, I think I have 98% and I am deeply grateful.

  3. My sincere condolences to the family.
I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Bob in orthopaedic partnership for more than 30 years. I was actually recruited to orthopaedic practice to replace him when he left for a couple years to work in the United States. Then, when he and Helen came back, we worked together in the office as partners. After he retired, he became my very valued surgical assistant in the operating room. Bob was beloved by everyone in the workplace. He was always in good humour, a real gentleman, absolutely trustworthy, and competent. When I replaced him in his practice, following up on many of his patients, they were very big boots to fill. His patients absolutely loved him.
Thank you, Bob, for being such a good friend, such a capable partner, and such a good man who made a tangible difference in the lives of so many people in Victoria. Rest in peace. I look forward to seeing you on the other side.

  4. I would like to send my deepest sympathies to Sheila, Jean-Marie, and all the Das family. What a remarkable life. May his memory be a blessing. Thinking of you all at this time.

We remember so well our time together in Victoria as one of the original founding families of Holy Cross parish. We recall with great fondness as well the bus trips we did with Bob & Helen to Reno and also the short trips to the Cloverdale race track. Not enough could be said about their generosity and true fun on everything they did! So many unforgettable loving memories for sure. Our deep love to all the family and friends. Rest in peace Bob! You have earned your place at the right hand of Jesus our saviour!

  8. I miss you so much Dad! Thank you for choosing me 58 years ago and all the unconditional love you and Mom have given me. I couldn’t have asked for a better father. You will forever be in my heart, you are my forever hero. It’s now your time to rest. Love you Dad ❤️

  9. My sincere condolences to Bob’s entire family, to whom he was truly devoted. Bob was an accomplished and illustrious medical school graduate when he completed his training in India – most of us would never have known that, until Helen told us about the breadth of his academic achievements and awards. Bob was highly respected in the Victoria medical community. He was kind, considerate, and thoughtful, and was esteemed by his patients. I had the privilege of knowing Bob for more than 40 years, first as an intern, then later as a colleague, and for many years as a patient in my own medical practice. Bob had a mischievous sense of humour, and could always be depended on for providing a laugh at just the right time. On many occasions, Bob would arrive at my office with various delicious Indian food recipes that he had prepared for us at home – he really did spoil us. We used to joke that he should retire from orthopaedic surgery and set up his own restaurant. Bob was very widely read, and could always be counted on for a great conversation on almost any topic.

Bob may be gone from our lives, but he will always live on in our hearts.

  10. My dear Das Family – the loss of someone so loved by so many, Bob had all the characteristics of a true gentleman. His kindness, sense of humour and loving not only his family and friends, but also the many patients and confreres during his life. I was blessed to spend a little time with him and Helen 2 weeks ago, and he had not lost his sense of humour or showing his love . We miss him.

Love to the girls, Helen and family.
    Kate and Alan Cowood
