  1. I didn’t know Matt outside of my job, I work for Apple in the Uptown Future Shop. He has been coming into the store for a long time now, he was always full of energy and excited to look at the new Apple products and ask me about what products are coming next. I was shocked to learn of his passing today, he was in the store just a few days ago looking at cases for his new iPod Touch.

Matt you are in my prayers. When you saw me around town you would always say “Hi Apple Guy”. You’ll be missed from the entire crew at Future Shop

  2. Dear Leah, Dan, Eric, Colston and Ryland,

What a great loss for all of you, I cannot imagine how painful the loss of Matt must be and how broken your hearts are.

Matt was a lovely wee lad and I always enjoyed being around him. He certainly was entertaining with his cheeky sense of humour…gosh he made me laugh! Matt always made time to chat, ask how you were and was genuinely interested in you. He had that rare gift of giving more than he received….he was one kid that I loved to hug and give a ridiculously large kiss on the cheek to…he’d brush me off with a laugh and tell me not to do that again….but of course he never meant it…and when we’d meet again I’d hug and kiss him. Its funny when I think of Matt I picture him in his cub uniform, proudly showing off his badges. I used to ask him to take me fishing when he saved up enough to get his own boat…and to make sure that we had the right bait so I caught the ‘big one’! He’d look at me and then tell me to start lifting weights so my arms would be strong enough to pull it in. Cheeky boy! I guess that will be postponed till we meet again.

He will be sorely missed by all that knew him. My sincere condolences…xxxoooxx

  3. Matt was such a wonderful gift to our family! He blessed us in so many ways with his kind heart and great sense of humour. He had an uncanny ability to make the ordinary things in life fun and the energy in our home instantly changed for the better when he walked through the door. His friendship with Ben will always be his biggest gift to us-Matt gave us as parents the courage to let Ben ride public transit, as he faithfully met him every day on the bus and taught Ben the ropes. They truly were kindred spirits and had so many adventures together (like getting Slushies at 8am in January on the way to school thinking no one would find out-but taking pictures of it on my borrowed phone).
I want to thank Matt’s family for having raised such a wonderful young man who was a beautiful gift to all of us. We are forever grateful for having had him in our lives.

  4. Dear Leah – I will always remember Matt coming to LMH to meet you after work – his kind face always melted my heart……..xox

  5. Dan and Leah, as you can see from the comments above, Matt has left a lasting impression on those individuals that he came in contact with.
A smile comes to my face when I think of our regular visits aboard the Skeena Queen, and the “sugar with tea” that he would have on the bridge with us.
I last saw Matt on the Skeena in a few weeks ago, he filled me in on what he had been doing, graduation etc. and asked about Danica and recalled some stories from Fernwood school.
Matt, you made a difference in the world and your memory brings smiles.

  6. I remember smiles, chuckles and chats on the Skeena with your precious young man and can only send love and prayers for all of you to get through this while holding tight to each other and the memories you have made

  7. I would like to leave my deepest condolences to Matt’s family and friends.
I drive for B.C. Transit, and Matt was a constant on my 52’s. The smile and the wave while approaching his stop, and him always asking “how are you?” as soon as he boarded. From discussing the jewellery box he was getting for his mom, to showing the latest techno gadget, it was such a pleasure to have him aboard.
His kind and gentle spirit is what I treasure the most. He was so proud to buy me a coffee when he got his first paycheque from Sleggs. That’s just who he was.
You are in my prayers Matt. The sun always shone a little brighter because of you.

  8. This is a significant loss for many of us. I drive for BC Transit and saw Matt frequently. I admire, still, his ability to see everything in a positive light, his ability to quickly forgive, his absolute and pure joy when he encountered someone that he liked. He always made everyone feel important. He was so deservedly proud to graduate from High School and so proud of his work

I hope that you can see these comments, Matt, wherever you are. You are appreciated and missed. Know that we feel privileged that you showered us with the attention that gave so sweetly and freely. It would be wonderful if there were a lot more people around like you.

  9. In the pass year, I had many contacts with Matt, for him I was always “Max’s mom”. I saw him as a young man eager to do things right. At graduation, I had the chance to sit very close to him, he was so nervous but still found the courage to walk the bridge. As a parent, I don’t have the courage to think about the pain your lost represents. I just hope that with time, there will be some comfort remembering all the sweet moments you had with him.

  10. I am in shock. Matt and I knew and felt the very special bond we had. I will miss him so very much. My heart is broken and I can’t imagine going back to school and he won’t be there. I will miss him making me laugh and oh his great hugs. I’m blessed for.all the years and adventures we had together. I will always miss him.
